The main objective of the AEK-MOT-WINH92 solution is to drive the DC motor of an automotive window lifter, ensuring a high level of safety.

 

The board perfectly fits the automotive market trend towards window lift applications by providing a new anti-pinch mechanism that does not require the use of a motor encoder, but instead utilizes the board's three different types of motor response (series, low side and high side).

 

The board can be configured for use with a single H-bridge for a bi-directional DC motor, or two independent half-bridges for two uni-directional DC motors.

 

Due to its compact size, the board can be easily connected to any microcontroller, utilizing separate dedicated connectors for SPI communication, current response and basic motor command interface with fault detection. Another key feature is the adjustable gain for anti-pinch and to meet any window operating conditions (the current range level may change when the window is opened in adverse weather conditions, such as ice).

 

The board also provides three diagnostic functions for detecting potential ground shorts, battery shorts, and open loads when the device is off.

 

If a fault occurs, the DIAG pin sends an alarm to the external MCU to ensure timely handling of open loads, shorted grounds and shorted batteries, thermal warnings and overheat shutdowns, under/overvoltage and overcurrent protection. A fail-safe button has been added to the board layout for system debugging during the development phase.

 

Reverse polarity protection has been implemented to provide strong protection for the board and to prevent damage caused by reverse power polarity.

 

Four external MOSFETs allow currents of up to 50 A, in line with the board's power consumption capabilities.

 

The board design is based on the L99H92 H-bridge gate driver for automotive applications, which has a flexible electrical response that provides a different tool for the development of advanced anti-pinch algorithms. For systems requiring a higher level of security, you can enable a watchdog with a programmable time window.

The first five demonstrations show how to configure the AEK-MOT-WINH92 to drive either a bi-directional (full-bridge configuration) or two uni-directional (half-bridge configuration, e.g., fuel and water pumps) DC motors and change the PWM duty cycle signal.

 

The last demonstration shows how to configure the AEK-MOT-WINH92 for a window lift application.
